Health and Social Care
Health and Social Care is a 2-year course offered at KS4 which follows the Cambridge National Level 1 / 2 Award 2022 Specification. Health and Social Care is for those who want to acquire sector-specific applied knowledge through vocational contexts. Students will develop their knowledge about growth and development through the life stages, the needs of individuals who have been affected by life events and how to recommend support to meet their needs. Students will complete a second coursework unit chosen by the department lead. This will either be researching therapies and the benefits of creative activities or researching health promotion campaigns and learn about the benefits to society. Both units require students to plan and deliver a presentation and evaluate their planning and delivery. The third unit of work is assessed via an exam. Students will learn about topics that are important when caring for and protecting people in health and social care.
Health and Social Care
-
R033: Supporting individuals through life events
-
R034: Creative and therapeutic activities or R035 Health promotion campaigns
-
R032: Principles of care in health and social care settings
Health and Social Care
The three units are taught using the terminal assessment rule which means the exam (R032) must be taken in the final assessment series of the student's course, therefore both internally examined assessments (R033/R034/R035) are taught in the infancy of the course to allow time for thorough moderation time, submission and resubmissions of work if required before the exam is sat. The exam (R032) allows students to gain knowledge and understanding relevant to health and social care and the non-examined assessments as this draws on and strengthens the learning which has already taken place. To fully achieve the qualification, students need to complete all three units.
Health and Social Care
In Health and Social Care lessons at Tottington you will see an engaging environment which begins with recall and retrieval of prior learning. The learning intentions are always made clear with a big question which students will explore within the lesson through information being presented to the class followed by series of independent learning. The independent learning section of the lesson will allow students to explore their learning outcomes through a range of pedagogical tasks/activities such as analysing case studies, research tasks and group work. Each lesson will end with a reflection task/exit ticket to consolidate key learning in that lesson. This allows us to see how students have understood the learning outcomes on a lesson by lesson basis to address any misconceptions in their understanding in future lessons.
