WHY STUDY FRENCH?
French is a language spoken all over the world. There are strong historical, cultural and trading links between Britain and France and at a local level between Bury and Angouleme. It is an official language of the European Union and the United Nations. By continuing with French, you are increasing your career options. In the enlarged European Union those speaking French, as one of the business languages most in demand will enjoy more opportunities than ever.
WHAT WILL I BE STUDYING AT KEY STAGE 3?
Autumn term: Leisure : sports, hobbies, free time activities, opinions , past and future tenses, leisure facilities
Spring term: Holidays: countries, areas, accommodation, transport, weather, holiday activities, past and future tenses, opinions
Summer term: Food and Drink: fruits, vegetables, meats, side-dishes, drinks, opinions, past and future tenses, food preferences, healthy eating, restaurants
Autumn term: Work choices: Jobs, Family members, places of work, work duties, wages, future plans, household chores, pocket money, part time work, work experience
Spring term: Media : films, tv, books, opinions, new technology, past and future tenses
Summer term: Region and Environment: areas, houses, places in a town, rooms, furniture, environmental problems and solutions
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
There will be 3 modular assessments. The first assessment will be done after the Leisure module. The second after the Holidays module and the last after the Food and Drink module. Pupils will be tested in all 4 skill areas: reading ,writing, listening and speaking. The scores from these assessments will be used to set pupils in Year 9.

- Current and future study and employment:
- School, Post-16, Jobs, Career choices and Ambitions
WHAT ARE THE SKILLS I WILL LEARN?
You will learn how to speak, read, write in French and understand spoken French in a variety of situations. You will develop your knowledge of French Grammar.
