Introduction to Design Technology
At Tottington High School, the Technology department aims to offer a curriculum that is broad and creative to engage and inspire all pupils. Pupils will develop their design, literacy, numeracy and practical skills throughout a range of exciting projects, exposing them to a range of new emerging technologies.
Design Technology at Key Stage 3
At KS3 all pupils will follow a carousel through the different specialist areas of Technology. Textiles, Food studies and Resistant materials. These areas are aimed at meeting the National Curriculum requirements at KS3.
Each pupil studies two hours of technology per week before opting in year 9 for their GCSE subjects. Pupils are encouraged to choose a Technology subject.
Design Technology at Key Stage 4
At KS4 pupils are given the option between the following subjects within Technology.
GCSE D&T – Textiles
GCSE D&T – Resistant Materials
Cambridge National Level 1 & 2 – Child Development
Level 1 & 2 – Hospitality and Catering
All of these courses are split in to two sections. A written exam and a portfolio of work which makes up 50% of the final grade.
