This term, some of our children will be given the opportunity to sign up to National Citizen Service (NCS), a government-funded programme for 15-17 year olds. Working through physical, personal and creative challenges, this once-in-a-lifetime experience empowers young people to build skills and confidence to get ahead in work and life whilst engaging with their local area. NCS Challenge March 2018
Our Year 10 girls’ basketball team won 3rd place in the Under 16s Greater Manchester School Games last week. The team were awarded their bronze medals at the Belle Vue Sports Village competition after beating Blessed John Henry Newman RC College in the first round. They lost against Reddish Vale but they refused to be deterred and won their final game against Swinton High and progressed into the next round.
A tough game against Trinity in the semi finals meant they went through into the third place play-off against Flixton Girls’ School and won convincingly.
The girls gave a cracking performance throughout the competition and should be very proud of themselves. They certainly did the school proud. Well done girls!
Our Behaviour handbook for students is a ‘must-read’ for the start of the new academic year. Its purpose is to effectively communicate expectations for behaviour of all members of our school, and to promote a positive, safe working environment.

Ms Sestanovic took 16 Year 10 pupils on Wednesday 12th July to the Bury College Debating Challenge. The event was organised especially for our school after the recent tragedies as both Adam and Olivia should have been attending.
The pupils were superb and prepared excellent arguments on three key topics:
- Zoos and Safari Parks should be banned
- The legal voting age in the UK should be reduced to 16
- Instagram creates unrealistic expectations for lifestyle and body for young people
The pupils were arranged into four teams –
- Team 1 – Charlotte Larkin, Sophia Karimzadeh, Olivia Wardle and Lucy Kaye
- Team 2 – Laura Richards, Megan Hockey, Lauren Hunt and Ellie Cairns
- Team 3 – Molly Nuttall, Beker Khalid, Tom Woodward and Sophie Stanford
- Team 4 – Oliver Limb, Louis Bancroft, Jo Woodman and Olivia Carroll
Team 3 came first with team 4 close behind.
