As we conclude this year’s examination period, I write to thank you for your efforts in supporting your son/daughter through what has been an intensive period of public examinations.
As you know this is the first year of new GCSE examinations in English and Mathematics which have place significant demand on the students and their teachers. As Headteacher, I am very proud of the drive, commitment, resilience and endurance demonstrated by all. Students have undertaken more examinations for longer periods. For example, English – four examinations lasting almost eight hours and Mathematics – three examinations lasting four and a half hours. In fact, some students have taken twenty two examinations lasting a total of thirty four hours.
In what has been a difficult period for our school, the dedication, effort and professionalism of my staff have sought to ensure that students have been well prepared and I know most students will have given their best in order to achieve their grades for the next stage of their educational journey.
The changes to the new grading system have been complex with numbers replacing letter grades. I want to reiterate that the GCSE pass at the new grade 4 in English and Mathematics is a credible achievement for individual students and one which will be viewed as such for work and study opportunities.
I hope that your son/daughter has some time to relax and enjoy the summer break. I wish all our students the very best and look forward to seeing them on Results Day on Thursday, 24th August from 10:00am to 15:00pm.
Mr B Duffy
