Year 11 Leaving Arrangements

Year 11 Leaving Arrangements

April 2017

Dear Parent/Guardian/Carer

We are writing to make you aware of arrangements for your son/daughter as they come near to the end of their time at Tottington High School. Please make yourself familiar with the following important dates and times and the arrangements that go with them. Also included are some points about expectations until the end of their time here.

Monday 15th May
The GCSE exams start on 15th May, and up to Friday 26th May, every student is expected in school every day for every lesson (unless you have been informed otherwise which only applies to a very small number of students). During this time students will be in timetabled lessons unless they are either sitting an actual exam or in a timetabled revision session prior to an exam. Students have been supplied with their personalised timetables. Please go through it with them to ensure you are aware of their exam schedule.

Friday 26th May – Monday 5th June
School closes for half term at 3.15pm on Friday 26th May. When the year 11 students return on Monday 5th June they will be expected in school for exams, revision sessions and any timetabled lessons where they have not yet sat their final exam. Students are not expected in for any lessons where they have sat all parts of the final exam. Private study areas may be available only for those who are coming to work in silence.

Friday 23rd June
The official date for leaving is Friday 23rd June 2017. However, students are not be expected to attend school after they have sat their very last exam, so the actual school leaving date for your son/daughter will be when they have completed their very last paper.

Wednesday 28th June
The Year 11 Leavers Assembly will be at 9.00am on Wednesday 28th June. Students are expected to arrive at school as normal and meet in the Hall. The assembly will last approximately one hour and they will be able to collect their Prom tickets at this time.

Thursday 29th June
The Year 11 Prom is on Thursday 29th June and the students have been given letters separately inviting them to this event.

Thursday 24th August
GCSE Results can be collected from school between 10am and 3pm

Thursday 9th November – Provisional Date

Please can I also take this opportunity to mention the following issues:

  • Exam Reminders – We are moving our GCSE exams this year to our Sports Hall The venue, we feel, will be a greater benefit to staff and students. Practical arrangements will of course be different than used in the Hall and all students will be taken through this at a date nearer to the first exam. One important aspect is the issue of mobile phones. Phones that ‘go off’ during an exam will result in a student having their paper cancelled. To that end we are insisting that ALL MOBILE PHONES MUST BE HANDED IN TO STAFF OR LEFT AT HOME. We would appreciate you reiterating this with your child. Can you also ensure your son/daughter has the right equipment for each exam? For example, the need for a scientific calculator in Maths and Science exams as one cannot be provided.
  • Uniform (Blazers) – We know our Year 11 students are growing fast and to try to support students through the last few weeks, a few concessions have been made with regard to uniform. Students can now wear either a school jumper or their school blazer. One must be worn.
  • Uniform (footwear) – We appreciate that school shoes can be expensive but would ask that students are still wearing shoes until the end of the exam. Trainers are not When students are sitting an exam they must be in full school uniform.
  • Any unwanted uniform can be donated to the school office for students who may need this help in the future and this is very much appreciated.
  • Standards – The vast majority of our Y11 students have been working hard in preparation for their exams and we fully expect them to continue doing so. It is worth pointing out to all, that we still expect our high standards of attitude and behaviour in these coming months. Any student who does not adhere to our expectations, as well as receive normal sanctions, may put at jeopardy their place at the Prom and/or Leavers’ Assembly. That includes attendance to school lessons, revision sessions and of course exams themselves.

Please familiarise yourself with the details in this letter and your son/daughter’s personalised timetable, ensuring they attend all sessions, are fully equipped and dressed in school uniform.

They should all have by now created their own revision timetable, completed a full set of notes in each subject and should actually be revising! We wish all our students and their families the best through this exam period, please do not hesitate to contact us if you need any support or guidance and finally thank you for your ongoing support.

Yours sincerely

Mrs G Stanley (Pastoral Year Manager)
Mr P Greenhalgh (Deputy Headteacher)

THS Donates to Save Tottington Library

Head girl Tahlia Greenhalgh and Deputy Head girl Jessica Kelley handed over a cheque for £200 to The Friends of Tottington Library today. The library is at risk of closure and, as a school in the heart of Tottington’s community, we wanted to show our support.

At Tottington High School our students recognise what a valuable resource the public library is for the local community and it would be such a shame to see it go.

If anyone is able to make a donation towards this worthwhile cause please contact Ian Gartside from The Friends of Tottington Library at
